Long before the founding of Cairo, an Egyptian prince fell in love with the beautiful Merit. He vowed that not even death would separate them and built twin tombs connected by a mile-long passageway. For her prince, Merit commissioned the Unification Heart: two halves of the same whole that together contained tremendous transformative power. Upon their death, each was buried with half of the heart and the promise that connecting the two halves would reunite the lovers in the afterlife. According to legend, an earthquake split the mile-long passageway, forever separating the two and cursing the city that rests between their ancient homes.
